Ung & Lovande 16th-18th of April 2021, Västerås Concert Hall

Ung & Lovande is a chamber music competition for young music students at master’s level or similar in constellations from duo and up. Applicants must be born no earlier than 1991. The application must be submitted no later than 27 October 2020. The finalist will be selected in November 2020.

Ung & Lovande started 1992. It runs every two years. A maximum of five participating groups are selected for the final round. The winning ensemble receives a nationwide tour as an award.

We are looking for music students at master’s level or similar in constellations from duo and up. The applicant who apply to Ung & Lovande 2021 must be born no earlier than 1991. You must study at a Swedish music academy or, if you study music abroad, be a Swedish citizen.

The application is made via a web form.

The following information must be completed in the web form:
• Group name and CV
• The members’ names, dates of birth, instruments and names of the university where the studies are conducted / have been conducted
• Contact person for the group with name, e-mail address and telephone number for all members
• Information about works and composers on the submitted audio file
• References for the group from group teacher. If there is no reference for the group, references for each member of the group must be provided.
• Audio recording in the form of an mp3 file with personal data and
contact information. The recording may contain three different works
and be a maximum of 30 minutes long. It must not be older than one year and should be playable on a regular computer. The recording quality should make it possible to fairly judge your playing.

Send the complete application via the web form no later than 27 October 2020.

Applications that are not complete or received after October 27 are not valid and will not be considered by the jury.

Information Ung & Lovande Spring 2021


The selection from all applications is made by a jury consisting of representatives from the Chamber Music Association’s board, Västmanlandsmusiken and Musik i Syd.

The selection jury selects the five ensembles that participate in the competition. Those who are selected will be announced in November 2020.

By the end of January 2021, all selected ensembles must submit information about the program they will play, title of the concert, photo and description of the ensemble.

The competition

Each group has a maximum of 50 minutes for their program. The 50 minutes also include presenting you and the program werbally, as well as time to get on and off stage. The competition jury will clock the program, going over time means deductions.

The competition jury will, in addition to the ability to adapt their program to the time limit, assess how the groups have put together their program (work, composer, presentation of the program.) And the actual performance of the program.

Chamber Music Societies Vote – Each concert organizing sociaty that participates in the biennial also adds one vote per society.

Practical information Ung & Lovande Spring 2021

Friday, April 16:
Selected groups must be on site for rehearsal at the Concert Hall (it is possible to come as early as Thursday evening). In the evening, a reception is arranged where all groups are presented to chamber music organizers and to the competition jury.

Saturday 17 April:
Morning: preparations
Concerts, three ensembles
Evening: Dinner

Sunday 18 April
Morning: concerts, 2 ensembles
Award ceremony

We estimate that the program ends around 15.00 on Sunday. Winning group will be photographed and a press release will be sent out.

The Swedish Chamber Music Association pays for a round trip (within Sweden) to Västerås, hotel from Thursday and food every day.
